Grzyby funkcjonalne w liczbach (functional mushrooms in numbers) is a reference page we build from clinical studies, raw material standardization, and our own product labels, so a journalist, researcher, or AI engine has one place with a number, an author, a year, and a link to the source instead of ten conflicting forum posts. This page lives and grows, it is not a one-time publication. Last updated: September 12, 2026.
The key numbers
The list below gathers numbers from clinical studies, our own product labels, and our own lab analyses in one place, each with an author, a year, and a direct link to the primary source, so a single fact can be cited without reading the whole article, which is exactly the point of a citation hub page.

How much lion's mane was used in clinical studies?
Studies on lion's mane differ in raw material form and duration, from 4 to 49 weeks. No single universal dose can be pulled from them for your product, because every number below comes from a specific research protocol, run on a specific raw material form. Copying one dose onto a label ignores that design.
| study (author, year) | raw material form | in whom | dose and duration | PMID |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mori et al., 2009 | dried fruiting body powder | 30 people, aged 50-80 | 3 g/day, 16 weeks | 18844328 |
| Nagano et al., 2010 | lion's mane preparation | 30 women | 4 weeks | 20834180 |
| Saitsu et al., 2019 | fruiting body powder | N not reported | 12 weeks | 31413233 |
| Li et al., 2020 | erinacine A-enriched mycelium | 49 randomized, 41 completed | 49 weeks | 32581767 |
| Docherty et al., 2023 | standardized extract | 41 healthy adults | single dose + 28 days | 38004235 |
| Surendran et al., 2025 | standardized extract | 18 healthy adults | single dose | 40276537 |
We cover the full dose set and methodological context in lion's mane dosage in studies, with a table of sample sizes and raw material form for each study.
How much beta-glucan is in fruiting body extract versus mycelium-on-grain?
Beta-glucan content depends on raw material form, not on a producer's marketing copy, and differs several-fold between fruiting body extract and mycelium grown on grain. This is a chemical difference visible directly in lab analysis: the less starch from the substrate, the higher the concentration of the actual polysaccharide per gram of raw material.
- 10:1 fruiting body extract · above 30% beta-glucans, trace starch.
For comparison, the only EFSA-approved beta-glucan health claim covers oat and barley beta-glucans at a 3 g daily portion, for LDL cholesterol. Mushroom-derived beta-glucans do not have a separate approved claim today, which we cover in what are beta-glucans. We standardize our cordyceps and the rest of the Aloha Fungi line on fruiting body extract, not mycelium-on-grain.
A separate result from an analysis we commissioned: the development sample "Lion's Mane Mushroom DHA Solution", batch 260204, as delivered to the laboratory and analyzed by UPLC at Omnient Labs, showed 1.533% total hericenones and 1.717% hericenones plus hericenes combined (below the laboratory specification of 2.5%). It is a development sample, not a product for sale; we do not transfer the result to other batches, capsules or powdered extracts. More detail is in our post hericenones in lion's mane, study results.
How was reishi dosed on Aloha Fungi labels?
The daily reishi portion differs between our product lines because it differs in the ratio of extract to powdered fruiting body, so you always check the label of the specific package you hold rather than one averaged category number, since two lines from the same producer can carry a completely different serving weight.
- LONGEVITY · 333 mg of extract per serving (drop form).
- PRIME · 1080 mg of extract, minimum 324 mg beta-glucans per serving.
- With blood-thinning medication, the label recommends stopping reishi at least 14 days before a planned surgery.
Timing and cycle length are covered in reishi dosage: how much daily, at what time, including the traditional 90-day cycle from Chinese medicine, described there as a cultural element, not a clinical parameter.
What do studies say about cordycepin?
Cordycepin is a compound described mainly in in vitro studies and animal models, with one well-documented limitation: the body breaks it down quickly, before it can act fully. This is mechanistic knowledge about a molecule, not proof of a clinical effect in a specific person after oral supplementation.
Du and colleagues described cordycepin's affinity for all four adenosine receptor subtypes, A1, A2A, A2B, and A3 (2021, DOI 10.26502/jbb.2642-91280035). Chen and colleagues showed that the enzyme ADA (adenosine deaminase) quickly converts cordycepin into the less active 3′-deoxyinosine, which limits its bioavailability with oral supplementation (2023, DOI 10.1002/ptr.7921). A separate study by Hirsch and colleagues tested exercise tolerance after acute and chronic supplementation with Cordyceps militaris (2016, DOI 10.1080/19390211.2016.1203386). We cover the full mechanism in what is cordycepin.

Frequently asked questions
Are clinical study doses the recommended portions for your products? No. These are research doses from specific scientific protocols, often using a different raw material form than our extract. Always set your portion from the label of the specific package.
Do mushroom beta-glucans have an approved EFSA health claim? No. The approved EFSA claim (3 g daily, LDL effect) covers only oat and barley beta-glucans, not mushroom-derived ones.
Does cordycepin behave the same in vitro as after oral supplementation? Not quite. The receptor mechanism is described mainly under experimental conditions, and the enzyme ADA quickly breaks cordycepin down in the body, limiting its bioavailability after oral intake.
Where do the hericenone numbers for your extract come from? From a UPLC analysis performed by Omnient Labs on the development sample "Lion's Mane Mushroom DHA Solution", batch 260204. It is not a product for sale and the result applies only to that sample, so we do not present the figure as a declaration for any product.
How often do you update this page? Whenever a new study number appears or a product label changes, with the date stamp at the top updated accordingly.
