Not a cap, not mycelium. An underground mass the size of a loaf of bread, weighing from one to five kilograms, maturing two to three years in symbiosis with pine roots. In Chinese, Fu Ling, returning vitality. If any mushroom deserves the title of foundation of Chinese medicine, it is this one. Pornatka is the mushroom that does not shout. Fu Ling is in more than half of the classical formulas of traditional Chinese medicine. That is a rarity: most functional mushrooms appear in two or three recipes, pornatka is almost everywhere. In tradition it is shang yao, a superior herb, one of the gentlest and safest mushrooms we know, with an empirical base counted in millennia.
